Sukeban

smoking ciggaretts,
sniffing glue,
razor fights?
BAD Japanese Girls in 1970s
Sukeban is a combination of the Japanese words for 'female' - suke, and 'boss' - ban - and translates to 'GIRL BOSS'.
Those girls were known for dressing in innocent school uniforms - long skirts, cropped sailor tops, even though the last thing you can think of is innocence. They were aggressive, rebellious and unpredictible.

Even after graduation all-girls gang members were still wearing the uniform in a show of solidarity.
Though the sukeban's primary hustles were pickpocketing
and shoplifting, they were also down to rumble, packing razors and chains. To hide from cops they were using well-known in Japan surgical masks.

Sukeban gangs faded away by the late 80s making their mark on Japanese culture and influancing other subcultures.
